In 2010, husband and wife, Chris and Tara Goulet were ready for a change. Chris was tired of the corporate grind and Tara needed a break from managing a local bakery. A friend and co-worker at the bakery, Conor Robinson, was learning how to home-brew. Chris and Tara thought Charlotte was missing a small neighborhood brewery where folks could stop in for a pint or take home a growler of super-fresh, unfiltered, American-style ale. They invited a handful of close friends over to pitch a business plan and serve Conor’s beer, and Birdsong Brewing Company was born.

While Daniel Callender and Dean Kelley are both former United States Marines, the pair didn’t actually meet during their time in the service. A fated neighborhood garage sale where Daniel was serving up his homebrew brought the two together. That was in 2016. Flash forward a few years, add North Carolina-native business partner Zack White, factor in many pints of Coastline Kölsch, and you’ve got what Salty Turtle Beer Company is today.

Waterline Brewing Co. operates in a rehabilitated section of the old Jacobi Hardware warehouse located on Surry Street, just under the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. This wonderful old structure has a great history. It was built in the 1930s and 1940s in distinct sections using concrete block, cinder block, and rough cut heart-pine timbers. We’ve worked hard to preserve the look and feel of the original structure while updating some of the infrastructure to modern needs: upgraded electrical service, water and sewer, new bathrooms and heating and air conditioning in the taproom. Join us on our tours where our staff will outline not only the brewing process but share some of the history and details of our beautiful home.

WE’RE A TEAM OF BEER INDUSTRY VETERANS WITH OVER 150 YEARS OF BEER EXPERIENCE In 2017 we constructed a 3.5 bbl pilot brewing system to research, develop and gain feedback from our many connections within our community. The system created a space for innovation and creativity that allowed us to produce award-winning beers. We received a Gold Medal for the Bock and a Bronze for the Mexican Lager at the 2018 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Seven Saturdays IPA & Riviera Lager received Silver medals in the American IPA and International Style Pilsner Lager categories at the 2019 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Remix took home the bronze medal in the fruit IPA category. Our portfolio has expanded to include the Official Team Beers of the Carolina Hurricanes and Wake Forest University. That commitment to creating the perfect beer is the driving force behind our recent 20 bbl brewhouse upgrade with plans to continue expanding operations in a new 30,000+ square foot production facility located in Raleigh, N.C. that will include a taproom and outdoor beer garden.

Born in the summer of 2008, Mother Earth is the dream-child of Stephen Hill and Trent Mooring, two guys from Kinston, North Carolina, a sweet southern town in the heart of the old tobacco belt. Our mission: Mother Earth provides a better world through quality craftsmanship, civic responsibility, and environmental stewardship.

Broomtail was founded by husband and wife team, Barry and Lisa Owings in 2014 as a way to share their love of brewing, using her Artistic Ability and his Scientific Expertise to develop consistent, high-quality, delicious beer. Barry (a water chemist and formulator by profession) began home brewing in 1990 with his friend Randy Shelton. The journey toward learning the processes – mechanically, chemically, and biologically to not only develop delicious beer but to duplicate the recipes and statistically prove consistency had begun.

Wilmington Brewing Company and Wilmington Homebrew Supply are owned and operated by John and Michelle Savard. "We are Wilmington natives that have fallen in love with the craft beer and wine culture. We both went to the University of North Carolina Asheville." The unexpected education that came from living in Asheville was the knowledge gained by being surrounded by professional breweries and home breweries. Quickly, we began to brew beer and wine for ourselves. Living in Asheville which has been awarded, “Beer City USA” grew our passion for home brewing and teaching home brewing to all our friends and family.
